John Ibbotson

Another tragic event in the world of cycling has occurred. Former British professional John Ibbotson passed away suddenly and unexpectedly this morning at the age of 27. Born in Tadworth, Surrey, he rode with Belgian Div II team RDM-Flanders in 2002 before returning home to ride with British domestic squad Endurasport.com.

Throughout his career, "Ibbo" was one of the leading U23 and Elite riders in England, before setting up the successful sports fitness company Fit-For; he also created the Chris Ibbotson Memorial Race in memory of his father.

He was always approachable and friendly, a nice guy through and through, endowed with a fine sense of humour as well as an especially astute knowledge of the cake shops in his local county of Surrey.

Ibbotson was still an active cyclist, leading many training rides with Fit-For, including to the Pyrenees and America. He was also quick to speak out against drug use, citing it as one of the reasons he left continental racing to return to Britain.

Moreover, John Ibbotson wrote several articles for the Daily Peloton, as well as British cycling magazines Road Cycling and Cycling Weekly.

John was well known for his website IbboWorld and was the administrator of the Fit-For forum, where he was recognizable by his ninja kitty avatar
